I wish to testify to the efficacy and all-healing power of...
I wish to testify to the efficacy and all-healing power of Christian Science, feeling that some may be benefited by this truthful statement. I hardly know where to begin, having derived so many benefits, but will state that about fifteen years ago I had a sever and stubborn attack of rheumatism which confined me to bed, and I could get in no other position than on my back for about six months. After trying several of the best physicians, Hot Springs, etc., I was relieved, not cured. For several years I was comparatively free from the ailment, but was always having some slight pain, and from then until about two years ago I had three or four attacks, lasting anywhere from a week to a year. During that period I suffered intense agony and took a great quantity of medicine.
About two years ago, when I had my last attack, I tried different reputable physicians with nothing but bad results. After a long period of suffering, often wishing for death as a possible relief, my aunt, who was not a Christian Scientist but anxious to do good, asked me to try the treatment, and begged me to talk with a practitioner with whom she was slightly acquainted. I consented, but was confined to my bed at the time, so the practitioner came and talked a while with me, among other things telling me that "God is no respecter of persons;" and I well remember that I thought unkindly and was positive that He certainly did not respect my feelings. She asked me to try to come to her the next morning; I consented, and though it was raining hard, I dressed, and with the assistance of a cane walked to and from the practitioner's house, about ten blocks. I began to feel relief at once, and gradually became entirely free, and have been ever since. I used to scoff at and ridicule this teaching, but am now a firm believer and know that others can be cured likewise.
Before my healing in Science I was also a great sufferer from stomach trouble and extreme nervousness. I tried all kinds of prepared foods and dieting with no result, and when I took a trip, if only for a day, I carried a lot of medicines, stimulants, etc. I became very dependent on whisky, first to stimulate, then to quiet, and would not think of retiring any night without taking these remedies, such was my false belief. All of this I have overcome, and nervousness is practically eliminated from my system, so to speak. It is indeed gratifying to me to be free from continual suffering, and my friends tell me that I look much brighter and happier than formerly.
