Even before I became acquainted with Christian Science I believed God to be omnipotent, but I had been suffering for years with nervousness and stomach trouble. During this period of misery I often secured medical advice, though for the sole purpose of reassuring my wife, for I relied on God more than on anything else, despite the fact that I lacked the proper understanding of His nature and believed with the many that He imposes suffering upon us. The hope of recovery never left me, however, although I looked into the future with a sense of anxiety which at times culminated in despair.

About two years ago I heard of Christian Science. I had injured my ankle at that time, and this incident seemed to serve a higher purpose, as my being laid up afforded me the opportunity of reading some Christian Science literature which was loaned me by an acquaintance. I thereby gained a better understanding of divine Love, and saw that my sufferings were in no wise imposed by God, but that I myself was responsible for them through false thinking and living. I then attended the meetings several times and induced my wife to join me. This teaching inspired us with strong confidence, which led us to secure treatment from a Christian Science practitioner for our nine-year-old daughter. She had suffered for five years with difficulty in breathing, for which she was under the constant care of a physician, besides having had an operation on the nose performed; but it was all of no avail, and the trouble usually grew worse in the evening, after she went to bed, so that her labored breathing made it impossible for us to sleep. We were happy to find that the trouble was now yielding, and with twenty-four days' treatment it had almost disappeared, so that we could sleep peacefully at night. There has also been a great improvement in my condition, and we have come to realize what it means to be happy. We freely admit that we never have been so happy as we are now, since we have recognized the omnipresence of God, good, and eternal harmony. We also rejoice that the opportunity is afforded us to give thanks through these channels for the truth as revealed by Mrs. Eddy and which was taught before by our great Master, Christ Jesus. Our desire is that this experience of ours may prove a help in leading our fellow beings to Truth.
