TRUTH'S APPEARING

That Christian Science has done much and continues to bless its adherents, is evidenced in the life of every faithful student of its teachings. The simple "word in season" brings a return of good to both giver and receiver. Its beneficiaries, when making their approach to Christian Science, sometimes contending for their opinions regarding its teachings, have been healed of painful diseases by a moment's entertainment of its high ideals, though they desired to go their material way.

This great truth unites all human kind in one common weal, and instructs each and all to work for local and universal salvation. No greater sign of the universality of its claim upon humanity, and humanity's God-given ability to rise in spiritual attainment, is evidenced than the willingness of high and low to abandon the material concepts of life, educated beliefs, class distinction, mortal standards regarded as essentials of their lives, and to learn to know life on a spiritual basis. In Science and Health (p. 239) Mrs. Eddy bids us "take away wealth, fame, and social organizations, which weigh not one jot in the balance of God, and we get clearer views of Principle."

Early in their experience the students of Christian Science endeavor to learn that the mere accidents of birth, ancestry, environment, etc., have nothing to do with their relation to each other. They comprehend measurably their spiritual origin, and are quickly on "their good behavior," emulating in daily life the spiritual teaching that Life is God, hence they must and do reflect and evidence this Life. In the light of this truth their moral and spiritual growth exceeds former hopes of progress in the understanding of God. The student endeavors to comply with the Scriptural demand, "Except your righteousness [right thinking] shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees [your former thinking], ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." With the acceptance of a divine idea comes accompanying light, happiness, content, success in every good undertaking; in fact, the kingdom of heaven within.
