OMNIPOTENT, UNCHANGING GOOD

Our attention has been called to the following specially pertinent question and answer, which recently appeared in the editorial columns of The New York Farmer, published at Port Jervis, N. Y.:— Editor New York Farmer:

A proposed subject for a debate is: "Should the Christian Scientists be permitted to practise medicine?" What is your opinion on the question?—Disputationist, Vermont.

We are not aware that the Christian Scientists practise "medicine." Those of that sect whom we know are opposed to "medicine." They may be said to practise "curing" or "healing," but "medicine" is not one of their instrumentalities. Should they be "permitted" to practise healing"? Why should not any person be "permitted" to heal or cure any other person who is out of health? If the Christian Scientists "lose patients," do the practitioners of "medicine," of all "schools," always "save" their patients? We know so little about the healing of the Christian Scientists that our opinion would be valueless. Your society should change the word "medicine" in the question to "healing" or some other word.
