THE LECTURES

Judge Clifford P. Smith lectured on Christian Science May 5. He was introduced by Frank M. Ferris, who spoke as follows:—

Jesus the Christ said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." If to mortal sense man is not yet free from the thraldom of those things from which Jesus came to free him, an earnest question to ask would be, Is it because the truth is unknowable, or can it be because in some way man has failed to understand the truth about God and His creation? If understanding be necessary to a practical working knowledge about anything, and if such knowledge be science, as the dictionary defines it to be, it follows that to understand the truth about God and His Christ is indeed Christian Science. It is to learn of this purely Christian and wholly spiritual teaching from the Bible which has brought so great mortal and physical blessing into the consciousness of so many throughout the world, that we have assembled today.—Correspondence.
