An overwhelming sense of gratitude prompts me to tell...
An overwhelming sense of gratitude prompts me to tell what Christian Science has done for me. Two or three years ago I passed through what seemed great sorrow and disgrace. The week before this incident I told a member of my family, who was seeking help in Christian Science, to leave it alone, as it was the work of the devil. Little did I then know that I was rejecting the corner-stone of Christianity.
In my great anguish I asked a friend, who had called to see me, to direct me to a Christian Science practitioner, for, as Job said, "Even today is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning." I saw the kind practitioner, who listened patiently to my story, and she spoke with such assurance that I was relieved of pain and was able to sleep that night, which I had not done for some time. She loaned me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and I was eager to know what that book contained. I felt a great sense of hunger come over me, and I persisted in searching for the truth. Many years had been given to church and philanthropic work, yet I never had been satisfied. I had even gone to my Sunday school superintendent and told him that I would have to give up my class of boys, for I was not instructing them aright. I could not accept some of the teachings which that church was giving. My experience, however, proved that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I knocked and the door was opened. Unceasingly I was seeking, and with the aid of a faithful practitioner the clouds swifty passed away, and I was gaining each day, until great floods of the truth were pouring into consciousness. Later, the way was opened for class instruction, which was a great help to me.
I can surely repeat the words of the man whom Jesus healed, "Whereas I was blind, now I see." I am truly grateful for the way shown us by the Master, and for the rediscovery of the same truth by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I am also grateful to all who so kindly assisted me.
