THE LECTURES

Judge Clifford P. Smith, in his lecture on Christian Science, given at First Church of Christ, Scientist, April 22, was introduced by Mrs. Julia W. Thomas, who said:—

It has now become hardly necessary to define the purpose of these lectures on Christian Science. In character they may be said to be educational, and during the years since the board of lectureship was first instituted, so well have the lecturers done their work that to a great extent ignorance has been enlightened and prejudice destroyed. Many of the friends who now attend these lectures know that they are blessed opportunities to learn more about Christianity in its various applications to human need. And so it has come about that the lecturers have done a healing as well as an educational work, for they have comforted many sad hearts and resorted not a few sick bodies by bringing again the gospel of good tidings, of peace on earth and good will to men, and the assurance that "not is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."—Correspondence.
