One evening in June, 1910, our three children were playing on our back porch, and one of them, aged six years, fell from it and injured his elbow joint badly. He was in great pain, but his father put the bone in place and then proceeded to treat him, as instructed in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. After a few minutes the child stopped crying and he slept well that night, also every night during that period. The next day while crossing the street alone he was knocked down by a fast-running team of horses. He came in the house very pale and full of fear (his arm was never bandaged), but in a few minutes he was out playing again. He never had any fever; the only discord which manifested itself was swelling in the arm; and five days later he was using that hand and arm just as he had. Last winter our youngest boy, our oldest boy, and myself had mumps, and my husband was our only practitioner. The ailment was overcome in four days. About two weeks before our little boy had his arm injured, our youngest boy, aged three years, was awake all one night and complained of toothache. His suffering was intense, and the next morning the whole side of his face was badly swollen. The following morning his eye was closed; but a neighbor thought it was due to a spider bite, and that was correct, for I found the spider in his pocket. My husband treated him faithfully, and in a week the difficulty was entirely overcome.
