HAPPINESS

There is nothing perhaps in connection with Christian Science which attracts more attention from outsiders than does the happiness of its adherents. On nearly every hand, this happiness is talked about, admired, and wondered at. Not long ago a business man approached a Christian Scientist and remarked:

"I don't understand Christian Science, but I must confess that its followers are the most happy and optimistic people I have ever met. It would indeed seem as if they had been able to throw off most of the troubles and cares which burden the rest of us and keep us in deep waters. And why do I say this? Well, let me illustrate. I have a friend who used to be very melancholy, unhappy, and miserable. He has a friend whom he heard give a Christian Science testimony in church, and this testimony was the means of causing him to take up the study of this Science; and in a comparatively short time he has become one of the healthiest, happiest, and most delightful fellows anywhere. I don't understand his secret, but it's very apparent that he has one, and a good one, for he's just full of happiness, and to me this possession is the best on earth."

"Well," said the Scientist, "if you have been impressed in this manner, why don't you try to find out what it is that makes your friend so happy and free? Have you ever questioned him regarding the real power back of his transformation? Have you ever asked him to divulge his secret?"
