A clergyman, as reported, says Mrs. Eddy tries to tell us that the mind is God. Mrs. Eddy has nowhere made such a statement, but on the contrary she repeatedly affirms in her writings that the mind, if by this is meant the sinful human mind, is the very opposite of God; and she further explains in the Preface to her book Science and Health, that while various incorrect writings on mental healing regard the human mind as a healing agent, yet "this mind is not a factor in the Principle of Christian Science" (Pref., p. x).

The Old Testament describes God as the Almighty, and He is referred to in the statement of Moses as "I am that I am." The children of Israel recognized God as a lawgiver; but Jesus awakened human consciousness to the loving fatherhood of God, and St. John states that "God is love." Christian Science gives expression to this Scriptural teaching, where it defines God as "incorporeal, divine, supreme, infinite Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love" (Science and Health, p. 465).
