With an overflowing heart for what Christian Science has done for me, I hereby offer the following testimony: In the spring of 1905 I submitted to a surgical operation (abdominal) of a very serious nature. I grew worse after the operation and suffered severe pain for about a year, when the physician decided that I would have to undergo another. I again submitted, but this also failed to bring relief. A third operation was advised, but it was decided best not to perform it. I was then told that nothing more could be done for me and that I would always be a sufferer.

All this occurred within about two and a half years. My mental suffering during that time was beyond description, and I feared insanity, for that was held to be inevitable by physician and family. Life seemed a burden and death the only relief, and I had made all preparations to seek this relief when my husband called a Christian Science practitioner, realizing that if I was to receive help it must be at once. It is over three years since that time, and I remember as I look back how a sweet sense of peace and freedom entered my consciousness during the first treatment. My cry to God for rest and forgiveness was heard and answered, and the words of our Master came to me clearly, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free;" and thank God the truth did make me free!

When I commenced to take Christian Science treatments, I decided to be as fair and true to my practitioner as I had been to my physician. Following her advice, I immediately purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and began its earnest study, as I was told this would aid in my recovery. I was practically healed in one treatment, but continued for about five weeks. My heart breathes a silent prayer of thanks to God for our inspired Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whom I think of as the anointed and appointed one to bring this truth to the world. More precious to me than the physical healing is the spiritual understanding of God as Love, Truth, and Life, and my true relationship to this infinite God, good.

The study of our text-book is teaching me to love my neighbor as myself, and to love God supremely. I believe the only way to show our gratitude is to live this redemptive truth, thereby helping others, and my daily prayer is to be a true Christian Science student. I feel grateful for our weekly Lesson-Sermons, as they enable me to gain a clearer understanding of the Bible, and I am also grateful for the Sentinel, Journal, and Monitor.

In gratitude for what Christian Science has done for my wife, as she has stated above, and also for myself, I am impelled to append my testimony. I was in a very nervous condition, troubled with chronic rheumatism, a great slave to tobacco and a moderate user of liquor. I was also addicted to profanity. Now, thanks to Christian Science as revealed through Mrs. Eddy, I am well and free from these false appetites and habits; and I have received a spiritual uplift that I did not think was possible on this plane; for all of which I am very thankful to God.
