In the attack on Christian Science as reported, an evangelist is credited with the declaration that Christian Science "is but a slight improvement upon the philosophy of the Hindus." Nowhere in the writings of Mrs. Eddy or in the literature of Christian Science can the critic find warrant for such a statement. Every teaching in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the text-book of Christian Science, by Mrs. Eddy, is based on the utterances of the prophets and on the life and teachings of Jesus the Christ, whose sermon on the mount, as she declares, is the "essence" of Christian Science (Science and Health, p. 217). Christian Scientists realize with Paul that it is "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" which sets us free from the law of sin and death and heals both sickness and sin.
