I awoke one morning with a very tired, weary feeling, a deep sense of discouragement. There was a great deal of material work to be done, and before beginning this work I took up the Bible and Science and Health, hoping to find some words of encouragement; but I seemed to find no comfort. While going about my work, however, these words kept coming to me, "Rejoice, and be exceeding glad;" "I will not leave you comfortless." All day these truths were with me, but personal sense argued that this was not what I needed. Was I to rejoice for a tired, sick body, and a lack of money for needed supplies, etc.? Still the voice of Truth kept saying, "Rejoice, and be exceeding glad;" and all day my heart was lifted to God in prayer.

Toward evening the clouds began to break, a light appeared, and again the command came to rejoice,—rejoice because the discord had never been real; because the harmony of the universe had never been disturbed and never can be, since God is governing it each moment, and His government is eternal. The evening brought the reward for faithfulness, with a sense of the peace that passeth all understanding, the peace which Christ Jesus said he would give—"not as the world giveth." The money that was needed so much for the morrow came in an unexpected way, and once again the promise was fulfilled, "Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land;" "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee."
