I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings...

I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received from the testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals, for these were the first things I read. I did not take up the study for physical healing, but because I saw what it had done for my wife, who had taken up the study about three years before I did. She did not seem like the same person, for where before she was always sick and unhappy, now she is well and happy. I took up the study in earnest about three years ago, and it has helped me wonderfully in many ways. One of the ills overcome was kidney trouble, and this is entirely gone; also a slight throat trouble, and the use of bad language. The latter I made some effort to quit, but it seemed to be quite difficult. However, after I had been studying Science and Health for some time, I burned my hand quite badly, and the first thing I did was to laugh. I then noticed that the habit of profanity had left me. Meditation upon the truth contained in "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468), brought relief, and the burn did not trouble me in the least.

Another thing which has been overcome was a desire to work on Sunday. I used to enjoy working on Sunday more than any other day, but this desire has left me. One of the errors I had to overcome was the belief that Scientists worshiped Mrs. Eddy, but I now know that they do not, but only love her and are thankful to her for bringing to light this truth that has been lost so long, and for making it so plain that we can put it in practice the same as in Jesus' time. I am very grateful to her because she lived near enough to God to write Science and Health, which is indeed a key to the Scriptures, for it makes the Bible a new book to me. Before I took up the study of Christian Science I never read the Bible, but now I love to read and study it every day. I am also thankful for the Christian Science literature, especially the daily newspaper, the Monitor, which I think every Scientist ought to take. We feel that some of the papers contain articles that are well worth the price of a year's subscription. At the start, although I was not then a member of the church, I gave half of the only ten dollars I had in cash for a year's subscription. I felt happier and rejoiced because of doing this, and I am thankful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for this truth.—J. W. ARNI, Pasadena, Cal.
