Deeply grateful to God for benefits received through Christian Science, I give the following testimony, which may be helpful to others placed in the same position. About two years ago I met a friend whom I had not seen for some years and who came to spend a few months in this city. In the course of conversation I discovered that she had become a Christian Scientist, and asked her to enlighten me on the subject, as I knew nothing about it. I was deeply interested in all she told me; in fact, I could not think of anything else and was always on the lookout to continue the same subject with her. I read Mrs. Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and was treated by my friend for a stomach trouble of over twenty years' standing, as well as for a bad attack of rheumatism in the feet. I was soon cured of both complaints, for which I am most thankful. With the slight understanding I have of Science, I have with God's help been able to ward off many ailments and have never again taken any kind of medicine. What I am most grateful for, however, is the understanding of God's ever-present love and care, and the knowledge that He is All-in-all, and that no harm can come to His children.

The reading of Mrs. Eddy's book was overwhelming to me! It was so wonderful to think that we could get rid of disease and sin through the understanding of divine Truth, Life, and Love that I could not believe it; and more than once laid the book aside. It was a long struggle, but at last light began to dawn, and it has kept on getting brighter and brighter, thanks to the loving help of my friend, who, though far away, is always ready with an encouraging word. Quite lately, she also gave me absent treatment for a bad attack of bronchial trouble, the acute state lasting only three days, but the cough quite a while longer.

My ardent wish is to find myself some day worshiping with other Scientists in their church, but this as well as all other things, I leave in God's hands. A sister of mine has also been greatly benefited by having her eyes healed of a very painful complaint that had troubled her for several years. She was treated by the same friend for some months, was well for ten days without acknowledging it, and had a relapse. The treatment was continued for some time longer, then left off, as the practitioner thought she should realize the truth for herself. Through the continued reading of Science and Health she has been quite healed. She joins me in this testimony of deep gratitude for blessings received.—Alice Durand, Lisbon, Portugal.
