Some four years ago my attention was drawn to Christian Science by a dear friend, but I declined her invitation to attend a service, as we were just then going on a journey. Three weeks later we returned, and on the following Sunday I attended the church. The congregation was just singing the hymn which begins, "Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him." This wonderful hymn brought me inward peace, and I attended the meeting on the following Wednesday. Beautiful testimonies were given by those who had been restored to health, and the story of a gentleman who stood near me especially appealed to me. He said that he had been healed several years before of a rupture; and as I listened intently to his words, the thought came to me that an abdominal complaint was not unlike his former trouble, and that I too might be healed. I read the Herold, and found what I was looking for, namely, the testimony of a woman who had been healed of the same ailment as mine. I attended the meetings for several weeks, in order to get the right understanding, and one Sunday I asked for help. Treatment was immediately given me by a kind Scientist, with the result that the ailment which I had carried with me for the long period of twenty years, and which often kept me from working, disappeared within a week.
I shall never forget the day when I went home with gratitude and joy in my heart, and the firm thought that I was now well and able to work. I have been free from this disability ever since. Although some ill would manifest itself now and then, I had learned enough of this glorious truth to know that with God's help it could be overcome through earnest prayer. This shows that we should pray daily and hourly that we may gain a higher understanding of this glorious truth. I cannot be grateful enough to God, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to all who have helped me to find the way to divine Truth.
