I thank God for Christian Science, for it has made a new woman of me. I was told by two doctors that I had not long to live, as I had a malignant growth on the stomach and liver and that it could not be removed. They said that I might live a year or two, if I ate nothing but a prepared food, but that I would never be any better. I did as I was told for a year and three months; then they examined me again and told my oldest daughter that conditions were worse, and that I should not be here long. I felt that I was growing weaker every day.

It was about this time that a friend came to see how I was, and asked why I did not try Christian Science. I said if it was a religion that healed, I should like to know more about it. A few days later I had to go to bed, as I had taken a bad cold and the doctor said my lungs must be poulticed. I was in bed when the same friend sent his sister and another lady to see me, and what they told me of Christian Science seemed to be just what I had been wanting all my life. They sent me some Sentinels, and from what I read I felt that God would heal me, that He did not mean me to die; so I stopped the poulticing and was up when the doctor came. He said I was not fit to be up, but I said I felt much better. I also stopped taking medicine.

One of the ladies came to see me again, just a week from seeing me before, and she was quite surprised when I opened the door myself. She said she would send me a copy of Science and Health. I got it Thursday night, and read it all day on Friday. At night I turned to the beginning again, and while reading the chapter on Prayer (I had only got to the second page) I felt that I was healed. For the first time in many years I felt hungry, but I was afraid to eat, for the doctor had said if I ever ate solid food again it would kill me. I had promised to attend the Christian Science service on Sunday morning if possible; and I did. I had a talk with a practitioner, and she told me, among other things, that I could eat whatever I liked and it would not harm me. I did so, but my family did not know of it until afterward.
