The writer owes endless gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, for the healing which came to her nine years ago, when an invalid, with little hope of again being able to walk or take any active part in life. A copy of Science and Health was loaned her. The book was taken up simply to pass the long, tedious hours; but instead of putting it to one side, and going to bed before seven o'clock, as for many months past, that book engrossed her attention till after midnight, and she left her room next morning well. Her youngest child was healed at the same time. From that time every need has been met for herself and family by the understanding of God, revealed to them by Christian Science, as set forth in Mrs. Eddy's different works. Since the physical healing, very much work has had to be done; there was a new understanding of God and of man to be gained,—an understanding of Truth, of Life, and of Love,—and this is being accomplished as self is surrendered and thought purified.

There is an old saying, "Dead fish float with the stream, live ones swim against it." One may indeed be grateful when, in overcoming difficulties which arise, we find ourselves going against the stream of mortal belief; nor need we be discouraged when the moral and spiritual healing come slowly and we wonder if we are emerging at all. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 251), "Error is not real, hence it is not more imperative as it hastens toward self-destruction." For this leading back to God, through the teaching of Christian Science, when wandering far from the pure, life-giving waters of Truth, no words can express sufficient gratitude. Jesus, in his walk to Emmaus with the disciples, "opened their mind, that they might understand the Scriptures" (Revised Version). How many proofs have we had that this spiritual understanding of the Bible is the word that heals. The psalmist says, "He sendeth his word, and healeth them" (Revised Version).
