Bloomfield (Neb.) Journal

Our critic classes Christian Science with faith-cure, mental science, etc., and asserts that each relies upon the same principle of suggestion. Suggestion is not depended upon, nor is it used in any way, in Christian Science. The basic idea in Christian Science healing is an absolute reliance upon the allness of God, and the proper apprehension of man's relation to Him "who healeth all thy diseases." "The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much" in Christian Science practice. God alone is recognized as the healing and redemptive power by Christian Scientists.

Jesus himself said, "I can of mine own self do nothing." "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." Again Jesus said, "I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me." Certainly Jesus, in raising the dead and in healing those not in his presence, as was done in many instances, did not in any way make use of suggestion. Christian Science is deduced from the Bible and the teachings and works of Jesus. It claims to be a reinstatement of primitive Christianity, and submits as one proof of such claim its healing works, which are very similar to those performed by the early Christians.

Christian Science wholly discredits the claim that the human mind, or will, is a real healing agent; all real healing comes from God, the divine Mind, the source of all power and all goodness. "The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be."
