On page 3 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

On page 3 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy asks, "Are we really grateful for the good already received?" I feel that something more than a mere affirmative is required to answer this question, therefore I express my thankfulness in an endeavor to help others by testifying to the truth which heals and saves. Christian Science has brought into my life a sense of peace and security where once discord and despair reigned, a realization of the ever-presence of divine Love where skepticism and uncertainty held my thought, and health where suffering and nameless fears seemed to be the only outlook.

For many years I had been seeking an answer to the problem of mortality, and had wandered through the mazes of many so-called philosophies only to meet with disappointment and increasing perplexities. Four years ago I came in touch with Christian Science, and started to investigate its claims much in the same way that I had started on other investigations; but at the outset I saw that here was a revelation of Truth hitherto undreamed of, a practical system which could revolutionize the world, and one which I could prove for myself. My first visit to a practitioner resulted in the laying aside of glasses which I had worn for about eighteen months and which two oculists had warned me never to be without, and within a week I was enabled to dispense with bandages worn for over twelve years on account of varicose veins. I had always been in very straitened circumstances, never entirely free from debt and burdened with responsibilities which seemed almost more than I could bear; but all this has been changed by the light that Christian Science throws upon the word of God as found in the Bible. If we seek the truth ("the kingdom of God, and his righteousness"), a our needs are supplied; for our Father is ever with us, and we only have to learn to know Him as good to overcome all fears, which are really the cause of limitation and suffering.

Regeneration of thought is the key-note to harmony, and we can begin to realize this in our lives today by learning more of God and His infinite creation. Mrs. Eddy has made this possible by bringing to light the spiritual import of the Scriptures—the fact that God never made or sanctioned evil and that man in His image and likeness is perfect, even as our Father in heaven is perfect. My one desire is so to live that my gratitude for this understanding shall be proved in every thought and deed by constant endeavor to have in me that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," and thereby prove our beloved Leader's words, "Evil has neither prestige, power, nor existence, since God, good, is All-in-all" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 115).
