Some time ago a condition came up which would have alarmed me greatly before I came to Christian Science. There was pain all over the head, extending down the neck, with a sense of something forgotten, something which I felt I ought to know. Christian Science had taught me that such a condition was unreal, that I had but to continue using what I knew of right thinking and all would be well. The pain and discomfort lasted throughout the day, and in the evening my daughter read to me an article from The Christian Science Monitor. As she read I knew that this was the knowledge for which I was searching. I asked her to read it again slowly, and as she read, there came in a flood of joy and gratitude to our deeply loved Leader, the remembrance that all the "promises" are operative now. Generation after generation had drawn comfort from the promises of the Bible, but we, through Christian Science, were seeing their fulfilment. Ours is the joy of learning that the words and works of Jesus unfolded a Principle that is applicable now and available to all, whether "least" or "greatest." The painful conditions, both physical and mental, rolled away with the reading, every appearance other than normal vanishing with the return of the knowledge that Christian Science is indeed the Comforter, bringing to our remembrance "all things" whatsoever that the Master had spoken.
How can a Christian Scientist ever be grateful enough to Mrs. Eddy, who has brought such gifts to humanity? The only outlet to the grateful love which lives in our hearts, is the knowledge that love is its own reward, and that this reward is "exceeding great." Love will bring her the reward so nobly earned; we may rest on that, and work to bring to others at least something of what has come to us in Christian Science through her self-immolation.
Mrs. Winifred M. Playfair, Westminster, S. W., London, England.
