Christian Science is not a medical system, but a religion...

Omaha (Neb.) News

Christian Science is not a medical system, but a religion which indisputably heals the sick. It is a powerful prophylactic, for it lays the axe at the root of disease by destroying sin in individual thought. While teaching obedience to the law concerning contagious diseases, Christian Scientists do not diagnose or cure sickness according to a knowledge of disease; they heal by the understanding of health and its cause.

Christian Scientists, like others who labor for the betterment of mankind, receive a reasonable compensation for their time. This is not "commercialism," but justice. They are not forcing their beliefs upon others. Consequently the public needs no protection from "the onward sweep of the healing cult," as is claimed by some of the members of the medical society of the Missouri valley. Neither denunciation nor legislation has the right or power to restrict the function of prayer sanctioned by divine authority.
