AMONG THE CHURCHES

Articles of incorporation of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, of Spokane have been filed at the court house, and the first services will be held in the assembly room of the North Central high school Sunday, July 3. For some time the need of a Christian Science church on the North Side has been apparent, but so long as the South Side church comfortably accommodated the audiences attending the Sunday services and the Wednesday evening meetings it was not thought wise to start services in another part of the city. During the last few months, however, the audiences have been growing steadily larger, and at times the seating capacity of the building at Fourth avenue and Post street has been overtaxed. Numbers have had to stand through the service, and in a few instances some have been turned away because of the overcrowded condition.

In view of the existence of these conditions it is considered that the proper time has arrived for the formation of another church, and with this object in view, a meeting of the members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, was held recently, when upward of fifty of these members, residents of the North Side, expressed their desire to unite in the formation of the new church. By unanimous vote their action was indorsed. Following this meeting steps were taken in the direction of incorporation, and the organization is now perfected and ready to begin services. This movement is not a division of the older church, except for the practical purposes of incorporation, as the two churches will cooperate. Second Church of Christ, Scientist, of Spokane is incorporated as a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Boston.
