SOME POINTS IN DEMONSTRATION

Progress in Christian Science is a process of awakening to the truth of being which was always true, because it existed always in divine Mind; and the student soon finds that his spiritual development is according to law, even as the Master said, "First the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear." His concept of God is continually enlarging, unfolding, from a broader and higher basis, and with it comes a spiritual purification that ultimates in regeneration, a transformation which leaves nothing but the consciousness of the divine idea, without a molecule of matter or any phase of mortal sense.

All students of Christian Science are healers; that is, they are channels through which divine Mind becomes operative in expelling error and restoring harmony to the discordant thought. This is the rock of righteousness which bringeth peace, yea, quietness and assurance forever; and it is indeed a labor of love, healing and blessing mankind. Many students have testified that their joy in helping to free some burdened soul was the highest possible earthly reward, far beyond any human concept of happiness. All students naturally desire to be good practitioners. Mrs. Eddy once said to some of her students, "You will heal instantaneously when you believe what you say." It is evident that effective healing must be based upon understanding; and this can come only as one's life is lifted into a spiritual state—an approximate reflection of good. Conversely, he cannot rise into this state until he knows, in some degree, how to annul the various subtle errors of thought that would hinder his spirituality. It is therefore a question of getting understanding and using it, for understanding and demonstration go hand in hand. We are able to demonstrate the First Commandment and the golden rule only as we know God as Mind and man as idea or reflection. That state of thought which loves the world and the things that are in the world can never do it, for the love of the Father is not in it.

As the student progresses in the Science of being, certain fundamental points or lines of mental action are unfolded which are found to be practical, because logical and demonstrable. And though by no means laying them down as dicta, these points have uniformly appealed, in a more or less formulated manner, to so many earnest students, that a brief consideration of them may be of value. A basic statement in metaphysics is the great truth that there is but one Mind, and that Mind governs. In fact, when we realize that good is, and is supreme, we know it to be the fundamental truth on which all other statements of truth rest, and from which all proceed. Indeed, two times two are four because God is changeless goodness, the unerring Principle, "with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." This Mind governs according to a definite method of action or law, which Mrs. Eddy has named Christian Science. This law is a law of harmony and health, a law of expulsion to error, of restoration to the sick man, and of regeneration to human consciousness.
