For about six years I was a sufferer from severe stomach...

For about six years I was a sufferer from severe stomach trouble, and part of the time my diet was limited to such an extent that I often suffered the pangs of hunger. I had treatment from several of the best physicians in Denver, receiving temporary relief, but lapsing into worse conditions each time. One physician recommended, as a last resort, heroic measures, which were continued for about two years, but without any good result. A brother, who was living at that time in Texas, then wrote me that he had become interested in Christian Science, and that it would heal me. He sent me several pamphlets, which I read eagerly. I had just finished reading the New Testament for the first time in my life, and as the healing mentioned in the pamphlets accorded perfectly with that which is related of Jesus and his disciples, I believed at once that Christian Science could heal.

It was about a year, however, before I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and this book I read for three or four months. I gained some of the letter of Science, but not enough of the spirit to enable me to overcome the fear that food would bring distress. Two weeks' treatment, however, did overcome this fear, and I was then able to eat anything, and have continued to eat such food as was set before me ever since—a period of over thirteen years. During this time I have not taken any medicine—all my ills have been healed through the application of Christian Science, with the help on a few occasions of a practitioner. I have also been able to bring relief to others, by following the teachings of Science and Health. How good it is to know and to prove that God's healing power is still on earth, and can be manifested through man. In living away from Christian Scientists upon whom I might lean for help in time of need, it has been my great privilege—many times when no human help was near—to prove the first words of our text-book true: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings."

Class teaching I count as one of my great privileges, and I am truly grateful for the physical healing, as well as for the satisfied understanding of the Bible which has come to me, so that I am no longer puzzled over mere theories. I know that my foundation is sure, and this is still greater reason for thankfulness to God. I am also grateful to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, who has steadfastly stood against the storms of ridicule, prejudice, and persecution; and unswervingly and unerringly followed the ray of light revealed to her, until it is now lighting multitudes in the straight and narrow way.—Mrs. Edith Russ, Pine, Col.
