In his sermon on the mount Christ Jesus said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Christian Scientists not only expect to realize this, but they find as well that all his other promises are actually fulfilled, though possibly not as we ourselves would plan. For instance, in my own case, at one time I should not have thought it possible for this promise to be carried out without a material manifestation of wealth, some power, and enough of success in life to satisfy at least a moderate ambition. As I began to grow, however, I discovered that should I receive all these so-called benefits, to a degree even greater than my most extravagant hopes, all that I could possibly realize from them, under the most favorable circumstances, would be contentment, and contentment I gained soon after I came into Christian Science. I first became interested in its teachings through the healing of my wife, of a spinal trouble which, with other complications, had baffled the skill of many physicians. Our monthly bills for doctors and drugs were a considerable item for over fifteen years; but since we experienced the efficacy of Christian Science, about six years ago, we have not spent a cent in this manner. While glad to be relieved of this expense, also of the suffering, the financial part is a small matter compared to the relief of mind brought about by a changed concept of God.
Whereas formerly I had so much to cause me to fear and worry, and a large part of the time I did not consider life worth the living, so that I often wished it were ended, under present conditions I do not have to hope for better things in the future, but am enjoying them now. I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy that, through Christian Science, this change has taken place; for it not only brought health, but many other blessings and much happiness into our home.—J. N. Sanborn, Fort Worth, Tex.
