Nothing is more foreign to the teaching and practice...

Long Beach (Cal.) Press

Nothing is more foreign to the teaching and practice of Christian Science than the endeavor to use it in the acquirement of any material thing, as such. This Science is a spiritual Science, dealing with spiritual things. The rule of practice in Christian Science is the very same laid down by Jesus the Wayshower, "Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

To act or think "in a certain way" with reference to material possessions is as vague to the Christian Scientist as to others. The statement that a person may "think" himself into the possession of riches is repugnant to Christian Science. The fruits of this Science are health, holiness, peace, and joy, and these are all a "sign" following the seeking of the kingdom of God. Added to this true seeking comes freedom from poverty and the fear and limitations that attend such a condition. This, however, is the polar opposite to anything akin to the teaching or practice to "hold the thought-image of it with the most positive certainty that it is being made." Christian Science declares that God is supreme intelligence." Mind, Spirit, and it compares "spiritual things with spiritual."
