Christian Science was brought to my notice nearly two...

Christian Science was brought to my notice nearly two years ago, while looking for a good physician, whom I wished to consult with the hope of being relieved of severe backaches, apparently caused by kidney trouble. Some one then advised that I try Christian Science, and although I had no faith in it I consented to give it a trial. An appointment was made with a practitioner, and strange to say, that which had caused me continual trouble for a year at least, left me with the first treatment and has not troubled me since.

My boy, then three years old, was suffering with a rupture on the left side. We had taken him to different doctors, who told us that he would have to undergo an operation. We, however, decided to try Christian Science for him, and in ten days, with about seven treatments, the trouble disappeared. Naturally, relatives and neighbors insisted that it could not have been a rupture, since it was healed in this manner, so that we began to doubt it ourselves to some extent. In October, 1908, while playing with other children, he fell from a fence and received an injury on the right side, much more severe than the first one, so that he was in great pain, unable to walk, and slept very little. The same practitioner advised us to take him to a physician, presumably for the purpose that we might have more faith in Christian Science this time, and appreciate what it had done and was doing for us. At any rate, we called on a physician, and he pronounced it a case of severe rupture. At his request another physician was called, and he made the same statement. We were asked to keep the child as quiet as possible, which we did, and the doctor said he would call the following morning and advise what should be done. That same morning the practitioner happened to call, and in her presence the doctor stated that he could do nothing for the child except to operate. He was promptly told that we would not consent to that, so he gladly turned the case over to the practitioner, and asked to be kept informed as to the outcome. The second day after treatment was begun, we had the pleasure of telling the doctor that the child was completely healed. He at once called to examine him, and said it was the most wonderful thing he had ever heard of or seen. Since then the boy has been well, and we are certainly more than thankful for what Christian Science has done for us.—A. Bekins, Oakland, Cal.

[We are glad to append the following statement, courteously given by the physician, who, however, does not wish his name to be published.—Editor.]
