On page 345 of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says: "Anybody, who is able to perceive the incongruity between God's idea and poor humanity, ought to be able to discern the distinction (made by Christian Science) between God's man, made in His image, and the sinning race of Adam."

Since the distinction is made by Christian Science, it must be made by those who would attain an understanding of this teaching. To attempt to apply to human beings and to the conditions of material existence Mrs. Eddy's definition of immortal man and spiritual creation would be productive of conclusions most absurd. The fact that some persons still undertake to apprehend Christian Science from this utterly erroneous standpoint accounts for their belief that it is confusing and contradictory.

Christian Science does not now and never did contend that evil does not exist as a belief in the human mind and the material world, but it does offer what thousands have found to be a practical method for overcoming evil, whether manifest as sin or sickness. No claim is made that Christian Scientists are perfect. On the contrary, the effect of Christian Science often is to awaken its disciples to a livelier sense of the evil in themselves that is to be overcome.
