About four years ago I became interested in Christian Science...
About four years ago I became interested in Christian Science through attending First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Oakland, one Sabbath morning just out of curiosity. I was cordially received, and was deeply impressed with the services. What appealed to me most was the Lord's Prayer, and its spiritual interpretation (Science and Health, p. 16). The silent prayer was impressive also, and the thought came to me, while listening to these services, that Christian Science was just what I needed; and I have found it so.
I bought a copy of Science and Health and commenced to read and study it. Some three months after this I was afflicted with a carbuncle which was angry and of large proportions. I decided at once to try Christian Science treatment, and went to a practitioner. I was treated twice, and the whole thing passed away in five days. I worked every day and suffered very little inconvenience. I have also been healed of the tobacco habit through Christian Science. I used to smoke a great deal and chewed tobacco between times. For thirty years I was in bondage to this habit, but Christian Science healed me instantaneously. I was also a slave to the liquor habit, used strong liquors for a great many years, often to excess, but I was healed of this habit also by Christian Science in a very short time.
I have been healed of sin and sickness and my whole life has been changed. Evil has disappeared, and in its place have come health and a spiritual uplifting, with peace, happiness, and prosperity. I am indeed thankful to God, and also grateful to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has given us this beautiful religion. I was healed in the months of September and October, 1905.
