It was not the physical healing which attracted me to Christian Science so much as its scientific statement of Principle. About two years ago, after beginning the study, I was exposed to smallpox from my brothers, who were affected with the disease. Nine days afterward, when at a town thirty-five miles distant, I began to manifest the symptoms, and a fever set in. It was January, but by the aid of Christian Science I was able to return the next day to my home, riding the thirty-five miles in the cold weather. The next day I kept my bed, but the third day was up and out, and though I had considerable fever I did not have the weakness and other symptoms which my brothers had. On the fourth day I resumed my work as usual, as well as ever.
