Christian Scientists do not claim to be better than other...
Christian Scientists do not claim to be better than other people—just better than they were before they gained a knowledge of this healing truth. In taking an inventory of my consciousness, I am glad to find that while in my experience, since Christian Science entered it, no mountain-peaks of healing or deliverance rise up above all others, there has been continuing improvement in all ways and things which have gone to make up this experience.
It is good to count as blessings within the compass of several years, less of self and the clamor of fear, less of unlove, unrest, and all the varying elements of the carnal mind, and more of joy and freedom, better health, higher morals, more harmonious conditions in the home, better results in business, more abundant supply, finer associations, more satisfying and helpful relationships, a higher appreciation of my fellow-man. Besides all this there comes enlarged capacity, greater breadth of thought, more serenity of mind—all in witness of some measure of spiritual understanding, activity, and growth, the entering in of the Christ-mind which Christian Science, through the study of its text-book with the Bible, holds for each and every earnest and persistent student. This attainment is clearly set forth on page 272 of Science and Health in the statement: "It is the spiritualization of thought and Christianization of daily life, in contrast with the results of the ghastly farce of material existence; it is chastity and purity, in contrast with the downward tendencies and earthward gravitation of sensualism and impurity, which really attest the divine origin and operation of Christian Science.
Christian Science has indeed unfolded for me "the life that maketh all things new," for which the gratitude expressed in words is but a poor return. The fruits of a life transformed—which I strive to bring forth—are a perpetual tribute to the "all-transforming Spirit." My appreciation for the life and work of our Leader grows with each advancing footstep toward the goal of Christlike living and doing.—Grace Potter, Portland, Ore.
