Our medical friend seems to have some difficulty in understanding Christian Science because of a failure to appreciate the fact that it is a religion and that the healing which it is accomplishing is incidental to and a natural result of an endeavor to live in accord with God's law as taught and practised by Jesus.

God did not people the earth and neglect to provide man with the means to cope positively and effectually with the ills of the flesh and the problems of life. On the contrary, God, infinite good, established for man, whom He made in His image and likeness, a sure way to obtain freedom from all abnormal conditions. Jesus' mission was to show us this way, and he taught how to live in accord with God's unchanging law and so secure this freedom. If it had been in accord with God's law to use drugs, Jesus would have used them, but he eschewed drugs and all material means. He made no diagnosis and took no account of material conditions, but by the power of God alone he repeatedly healed all manner of diseases. It is therefore conclusive that Jesus' healing work was on an absolutely spiritual basis.

As followers of Jesus and in compliance with his command, "Preach the gospel." "Heal the sick" (not one command, but two). Christian Scientists are relieving the sufferings of humanity. That they are successful is evidenced by the willing testimony of thousands who have experienced this spiritual healing. The healing of Christian Science is no more confined to a limited class of disorders than was Jesus' healing. Christian Science has to its credit thousands of cases of healing from so-called incurable diseases. Many and many of these individual cases were diagnosed by several eminent specialists, so that all chance of the disease being classed as a delusion is eliminated.
