In gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for the blessings...

In gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for the blessings of Christian Science, I offer my testimony. After the war in South Africa (1899-1902), I returned home with the belief that I had become heir to lifelong troubles of different kinds. I consulted several doctors, but up to January, 1908, I seemed to be farther from relief than ever. Some of my troubles had apparently increased. The belief that some were hereditary complaints, precipitated by the experience of active service, tended to make things all the worse. My faith in a God who is Love had gone, and I found no pleasure in religion of any kind.

On the 14th of January, 1908, with much antagonism to Christian Science at heart, I agreed to see a Christian Science practitioner. With kindness and patience he handled my case, and in addition to being healed of all my troubles, I soon realized that the real man is heir only to happiness, and is at one with his Maker. I have since proved that the blessed consciousness that man is at one with his Maker can be understood only by demonstration of the truth. Hereditary fears have vanished in the presence of Truth, and I am free.

In my profession and daily life I cannot say what a help Christian Science is. Efforts to attain to that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus" show that there is much to do to be worthy of the name Christian; but the way is clear now where before all was chaos. Mrs. Eddy says, "The powers of this world will fight, and will command their sentinels not to let truth pass the guard until it subscribes to their systems; but Science, heeding not the pointed bayonet, marches on. There is always some tumult, but there is a rallying to truth's standard" p. 225." Gladly I follow our Leader, for in so doing we follow the Master.
