DOING SOMETHING

It is not always an easy matter to do something unless one knows how to do it. The art of knowing precedes the art of doing. Doing something naturally suggests action and action suggests intelligence or mind. Nothing is done without activity. To do something, then, one must understand what activity is and who or what it is that acts. Is it mind or matter that acts, performs, and brings to pass?

Christian Science is proving to countless thousands that divine Mind is in reality the sole actor in the universe; that matter is devoid of intelligence or mind, and for this reason it cannot act or do something. Upon this practical proof of the mindlessness or non-intelligence of matter hinges the salvation of the human race, for it reveals the all-important fact that good is the only activity, consequently that evil cannot act or do anything. However unreasonable this statement may seem to the bond-servants of matter, it is nevertheless susceptible of proof in the daily practical experience of any sincere seeker of truth.

To understand that good alone has power, that it is the only energizing force and influence in the universe, is the greatest boon that could come to mankind. Upon no other basis can the omnipotence of God be explained. For centuries professing Christians have declared their belief in an almighty God, and in the same breath have admitted that evil also has power to act. This abnormality of belief has resulted from the false premise of a good-and-evil intelligence or mind, a mind that is just as capable of thinking evil as good. The activity of good must certainly be sustained by divine Principle, and since this Principle is God, all power, action, and cause must reside in God; in divine Mind, not in matter.
