Our critic is mistaken in his statement that Christian Scientists "place Science and Health above the Bible." All religious denominations have their books and commentaries which are intended to assist their students in making a careful study of the Bible. In like manner Christian Scientists have their commentary, which is the text-book of Christian Science and entitled "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

Some persons with a very limited knowledge of a given subject undertake to teach others, and thus are liable to misrepresent what they do not understand. In such cases it would be wiser for one thoroughly to acquaint himself with the matter before undertaking an explanation of it. Such a course would prepare him to demonstrate what he knows well, just as it is with mathematics and music. In this instance a proper understanding of Christian Science would qualify our critic to prove for himself that the claims of Christian Science are demonstrable. A correct knowledge of God enables one to heal the sick, and thus prove for himself and for others the promise of the Master, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." Christ Jesus said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

In his reference to Mrs. Eddy the language of our critic indicates his ignorance of her true character. Mrs. Eddy only claims to be what she is, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. This Science is applied Christianity. Its teaching bring comfort and hope to sorrow-filled hearts. Its practice demonstrates the gospel of divine Love, which comes with healing in its wings. Unnumbered persons who have come out of great tribulation are testifying daily of the marvelous blessings they have received through the healing ministrations of Christian Science.
