Christian Science depends for its healing entirely upon...

Manchester (Eng.) Guardian

Christian Science depends for its healing entirely upon the realization of God as the divine Principle or Mind of all that is or that has reality, and it is through this understanding of the divine Mind as a fixed Principle, or the operation of law, not in a miraculous but in a divinely natural way, that Christian Scientists are enabled to heal not merely nervous or functional diseases, but organic and structural ills also, and in ever-increasing numbers. The human mind is not in the least degree a factor in Christian Science healing, and if an attempt were made to heal any one by personal suggestion or hypnotic influence it would be contrary to the teaching of Christian Science, and consequently would not be Christian Science. The elimination of the personal element and the recognition only of the divine Mind, is necessary for both the understanding and practice of Christian Science.

The religion of Christian Science is not "morbid psychology," since it embraces not only the healing of all manner of disease, functional and organic, but also includes among its beneficiaries the drunken, the vicious, and the profligate. Not only have these widely differing one-time sufferers been healed, but no human personal suggestion or hypnotic influence could have maintained for these beneficiaries such immunity as they have received through Christian Science. It is the spiritual and therefore the better way.
