Through my sister, who had been healed in Christian Science...
Through my sister, who had been healed in Christian Science of a hopeless disease of ten years' standing, I became acquainted with Christian Science at a time when I was expecting childbirth. I and my relatives were looking forward to that hour with the greatest fear and anxiety, as twice before I had gone through puerperal fever in its severest form, and suffered from rheumatism and kidney trouble. The fever was very high the first time, and I was unconscious for days together. The physician, after the first examination, had said that there was no hope of recovery: I survived, however, but for years after this illness I suffered greatly.
After my sister's healing I sent for the same practitioner, and by her comforting words I immediately began to have courage and trust in God, for I had lost both through fortune's blows, and believed that sorrowful things only must come to me. I was greatly reduced physically, as well as broken down mentally, and unspeakable melancholy reigned within me, but through the treatment which the lady gave me my condition improved—I felt more free and things seemed not so heavy to bear, and I looked forward to the future almost gladly. I experienced the power of divine Love, and although I understood but very little at that time, everything went quite smoothly with God's help. The child was a strong boy, who to our great joy, has not been ill one hour since. I, too, continued in strength, getting up the first day; and I also could give the child abundant nourishment. I was very soon able to attend to my daily occupation, could lift and carry things better than ever, and this without fear. I have had no trouble whatever since then, and God's help is also manifest with the little one. He is very strong, and can eat anything without it causing him any trouble. One can see plainly that it is palpable error to believe that any food can harm us.
We all are sincerely thankful that God has led us into the right path, and made us find good people, who took us by the hand, so to speak, and led us toward the infinite good which is eternal. Heartfelt thanks also to Mrs. Eddy.—Ida Gnauck, Dresden, Germany.
