It gives me great pleasure to testify to the following facts, and if this testimony is of benefit to others it will be an even greater pleasure. I participated in the military operations which commenced in the year 1860, known as the Civil War, and soon after arriving at our destination "down South" our regiment started on a long march. I had not provided myself with army shoes, but wore ordinary boots, such as were used by civilians at that time. I soon began to have serious trouble with my feet, which resulted in two bad ingrowing nails. These were a constant source of trouble and suffering for a great many years, or until Christian Science healed them, about nine years ago. I remember that while going home from my work one night they were troubling me severely, and although my understanding of Christian Science was very small at that time, I declared the truth to the best of my ability. I gave them no material care or attention at that time, but the result was that they ceased to trouble me and have caused me no suffering since. Sometimes I realize that we might show our gratitude for Christian Science more effectively than we do.
