THE GULF BETWEEN PERSONALITY AND PRINCIPLE

New York City, Nov. 5, 1909. Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, Brookline, Mass.

Beloved Leader:—I have before felt so grateful to you for pointing out the great gulf that is fixed between personality and Principle. Recent experiences have shown me clearly how imperative it is to choose which of these two we will serve.

In an article from your pen in the Sentinel of July 7, 1906, on "Personal Contagion," you say: "There was never a religion or philosophy lost to the centuries except by sinking its divine Principle in personality." The wisdom you have shown in protecting the Cause of Christian Science from this "mental malady" is a perpetual marvel to me.
