THE HOUSE OF LIFE

O Love! O Love divine! didst Thou
In very truth draw near?
When sleep had drowsed my waking eye,
Had closed my outward ear?

Was it a vision, or did I
For a brief moment go
From this environment wherein
I feel life's ebb and flow?

Or didst Thou, all-compassion, ope
Mine inner eyes to see—
That here and now within Thy house
Of life I live with Thee?

Yea, here and now—for death is not,
And all that is Thou art!
Life, Truth, and Love in whom we live,
Nor may from Thee depart.
