Many times, both in our meetings and in private, I have availed myself of the privilege of testifying to the power of Christ, Truth, in telling what Christian Science has done for me; yet, when the thought has presented itself that I ought to write an account of my healing for one of our publications. I have felt that I would be unable to voice properly and sufficiently my gratitude.
More than eleven years ago I was a nearly hopeless invalid, and was at various times under the care of different physicians, some of whom were distinctly eminent in their profession. My home at that time was in a large city, and after a winter of great suffering I went to a hospital and submitted to an operation. Greatly to the disappointment of physicians and nurses, I was not relieved. After being more than five weeks in the hospital, I returned home very nearly in despair of ever being well; indeed I was told that everything which medicine or surgery could do for me had been done. One kind and liberal-minded physician even advised me to try Christian Science, and related to me the history of two cases which had come under his observation, and which the Scientists had cured after physicians had been unable to bring relief.
I had a number of ailments, but my greatest suffering was from a stomach trouble which made it impossible for me to take any food with comfort. Even that prepared for infants seemed to distress me as greatly as the more substantial varieties. The only sleep I secured was obtained by means of opiates. I will not attempt to describe furthr my seemingly hopeless condition. My relatives were determined to leave nothing untried, and secured the services of a faithful Christian Scientist. During his first visit he requested me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I at once began to read the book, and the stomach trouble vanished within two or three days, so that I ate whatever I desired and with absolutely no resulting distress or inconvenience.
