It has long been my desire to express my heartfelt thanks...
It has long been my desire to express my heartfelt thanks for the benefits, the great blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. About fifteen months ago I was on a visit for a few days at my sister's home in Dresden, and through her heard for the first time of Christian Science and its great success. I had been suffering for years, and as the physician could not help me, my sister advised me to turn to Christian Science. I attended a service first, and immediately asked for treatment, which was kindly given me. I was suffering severely with rheumatism and (as it was said) with twisting of the tendons. I could hardly cut bread, and to attend to my household duties seemed torture. Added to this I had a nervous trouble which caused me great pain.
As soon as Christian Science treatment was given me, however, I was able to drop the material remedies without suffering, and although I had plenty of work to do, my condition improved gradually, so that I was enabled to do some additional work and take charge of a three-months-old baby. I could do all this because I felt that divine power strengthened me, and because I became conscious that divine Love surrounded me, blessing and protecting me. An inward feeling of peace and trust filled me, and this in spite of all sorts of troubles, for domestic circumstances of a very difficult nature had made life a burden to me; but by and by my pains left me, — I do not know how, it all seemed so wonderful to me. Together with the trouble mentioned, an injury to my left thumb, as well as a growth on it, disappeared. In the same way my eyesight improved.
In our domestic life much has turned toward good. It is also very noteworthy that my husband, who had no work, soon found very good employment, although this seemed impossible at first, owing to prevailing circumstances. This showed us that all things are possible to God; that He leads everything gloriously, if we but put our trust in Him alone. Through this employment of my husband my desire to take up my former vocation as a housekeeper was realized at the same time. Whereas formerly I had dreaded the future and believed it could bring only sorrow, I now saw that God had helped us in every way, that He continues to help, and that everything turns out better than we expect. My little foster-child and my twelve-year-old daughter have also experienced help through Christian Science for all sorts of ailments. My daughter became ill with an attack of lung trouble as the result of a cold, and as I did not believe it would become serious I waited before asking for help in Christian Science; but I was very fearful, as the child had suffered severely with this disease once before and missed the school for a whole year. Through Christian Science help, however, she recovered quickly this time, and soon was able to attend school without experiencing any after effects.
