Our critic is quoted as having said: "There is a striking difference between Christianity and Christian Science, so called." There is a "striking difference" between Christian Science and certain phases of so-called orthodox Christianity, but a longer and better acquaintance with Christian Science will some time show the critic that there is a striking similarity between Christian Science and primitive Christianity. Christian Scientists do not, as critics sometimes seem to think, ignore pain and suffering, and do not attempt to brush them aside with the mere declaration that they exist only in the imagination. They know that pain and suffering amount to solid conviction with the invalid. While trying to help the sufferer to understand that pain is abnormal, illegitimate, and, in the broad sense, unreal because destructible, the true Christian Scientist exercise the utmost compassion, tenderness, and patience in ministering to the sick.
