Christian Scientists emulate the Master and obey his commandments, but our critic unreasonably demands of Christian Scientists the very ultimate in point of demonstration, without even stopping to take into consideration present approximations thereto. It is now generally conceded that practically every known disease has been healed in Christian Science, and that the dying have been raised to life and health. The apostle Paul said significantly that the "last enemy" that should be overcome is death. If "by sin came death," by sin also must have come upon the race the doleful preliminaries of death known as diseases. Christian Science teaches that the sick can be effectually made whole only as they are uplifted spiritually, and that every case of physical healing is an indication of moral advance. In the record of our Lord's earthly ministry there is but one short sermon, backed by innumerable instances of the healing of sin and misery in his presence.

The critic argues that Jesus healed "through the divine power that was within him." Paul urged, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus," and the Master declared, "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what the seeth the Father do." These statements epitomize the teaching of Christian Science. Our critic demands perfection in us. Let him charitably stop and figure with us what we have already accomplished in our effort, and what he has accomplished in the way of healing the sick, walking on the water, feeding the hungry, comforting the sorrowful, and lifting the sinful above passions and appetites, and there will be no need of further defense on our part.
