Christ Jesus was the great demonstrator of the ever-present...

The Courier

Christ Jesus was the great demonstrator of the ever-present availability of God for the full salvation of mortals from sin, disease, and even from death, "the last enemy that shall be destroyed." He suffered not alone the crucifixion, but at the end he bore the awful burden of the distrust of his followers and of their disbelief in the divinity of his mission. If he who spake as "never man spake," was unable to avoid misrepresentation and false accusations, arising from the world's hatred, jealousy, and pharisaical self-righteousness, is it to be wondered that Luther, Calvin, Wesley, and others who have brought to mortals a more adequate conception of true Christianity should pass through the same misrepresentations and the same persecution? For over forty years Mrs. Eddy has stood in the midst of such a storm of denunciation and condemnation as the world has not witnessed for centuries. Through it all she has been sustained and protected, and is to-day coming into her rightful place in the hearts and affections of all mankind. Demonstration, not merely profession, has been the constant burden of Mrs. Eddy's labors. She has proven to the world that the promises of the Master are true in their entirety, and that his works were based on a divine ever-operative Principle; that as mortals purify their hearts from doubt, and as they trust in God understandingly, they will bring into their daily experiences blessings inestimable. Through Christian Science as given to the world by Mrs. Eddy untold thousands are learning to know God aright. Burdens of sin, disease, sorrow, and suffering are being lightened, and hope is being brought to those in deepest despair. For this deliverance Christian Scientists give Mrs. Eddy their allegiance and deepest gratitude. Would they be Christians if they did less?

Christian Scientists trust their health, happiness, and in fact their very lives, to the demonstration of the truth of the teachings and promises of the Master. Could there be a more convincing proof of one's acceptance of him? Christian Scientists do not deny the existence of evil, sin, sickness, and suffering as a part of our human experience. They do know, however, that these abnormities are wholly illegitimate and should be overcome to-day in fulfilment of the "will of the Father" and in the way that Jesus commanded.
