I knew very little of the Bible or of any religious...
I knew very little of the Bible or of any religious denomination at the time I first attended the Christian Science church, five years ago. Since then my family have had many good demonstrations of the power of Truth. My little daughter's face and hands were a mass of sores, and there was great deal of fear of their leaving scars; she also had a very bad catarrhal trouble, but one week's treatment in Christian Science healed her completely. That was four years ago and she has had no return of either disease. In one treatment I was healed of bowel trouble and many other ailments, but still I seemed to be in the depths of a very stormy sea of trouble. I would try very hard to rise above the waves, but often seemed to be plunged to the bottom again. This continued until two years ago, when a felon appeared on my finger. It was being treated by a physician, but in my great distress I walked the floor for three days and nights. I was then confined to the bed for several days with a high fever, after which an operation was performed. The physician came the following day to examine the finger, and his verdict then was "blood-poisoning." It was arranged that he and his assistant were to come that evening to amputate the finger and perhaps the hand.
At the eleventh hour a Christian Science practitioner was called. She gave me Science and Health to read, opening it at the words, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need (p. 494). All sense of pain left with the treatment which followed, and I immediately arose from my bed. The physicians came, but were told that they were not needed. They insisted on taking my temperature, to which I finally submitted, only to be told that my temperature was alarmingly high. I had no fear, however, as the practitioner had left me with the truth that there is nothing impossible with God. After one week's treatment I was able to go back to my work, and I received only two weeks' treatment in all. My finger is perfectly restored, and I have had no further trouble of the kind.
Truth led me out of darkness and despair with the banner of the cross, proving once more that man's extremity is God's opportunity. By the help of a dear practitioner and the study of the Bible and Science and Health, I now know what happiness, peace, and contentment are, for which I am very grateful every hour of the day to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
