As a beneficiary of the healing power of Christian Science
As a beneficiary of the healing power of Christian Science. I herewith give my experience. About a year ago I was playing on the basket ball team of one of the larger colleges of New York State, and during a game received a slight injury on my wrist. Similar wounds were of common occurrence, and the flesh had always healed so readily that I gave this no thought except to wash the dirt from the wound after the game. Two days later I awoke in the night with intense pains in my shoulder, and by morning conditions had become so aggravated that the students in the house where I lived, together with the graduate manager of athletics of the university, insisted on my going to the hospital. I consented, but supposed that it was to be for only a day or so, and would not allow my mother to be notified.
After a few days the doctors decided that I had malignant blood-poisoning, and that my condition was dangerous; although I had not the slightest suspicion of such a thing, never having been sick before in my life. My mother, who is a Christian Scientist, was telegraphed for, and Science treatment began at once. In the mean time, the crisis came; high fever and several other complications appeared. Word was sent out from the hospital that I was dying, and the newspapers published the statement that all hope had been given up. The death sentence had been pronounced; but, thank God! this sentence was overruled by Christian Science, and in two weeks and a half from the time I was taken to the hospital I was able to be dressed and taken to my home in a distant city. After my return to the university, where I resumed my studies very shortly, I met one of the doctors who had attended me. In the course of the talk he said, "We have had seventeen patients in the hospital with exactly the same symptoms as you had, and you are the only one to come out alive."
I am only too glad to send in this condensed account of my healing, and sincerely hope that it may benefit some of the readers of the Sentinel. I am indeed grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her great discovery of the healing power of Truth.—Paul Frederick, Pittsfield, Mass.
