Henderson (Ky.) Gleaner

In the magazine articles used by the recent "lecturer," Mrs. Eddy is not more grossly misrepresented than are her principal books. I have read Mrs. Eddy's books, and have failed to discover anything to indicate that she means herself when she calls God "Father-Mother." Mother love is accepted by all to be the best and most complete representation of pure and tender love that can be conceived of, and to make the tender, compassionate love of God more real to us, we learn to think of Him as both Father and Mother. Is not God the only creator, the only origin of man? Then He is our only parent, both Father-Mother, divine Love.

It seems somewhat strange that those who wish to disprove the facts of Christian Science and its teaching, claiming it to be contrary to Bible doctrine, should ever feel called upon to use aught but the Bible in refuting its claims. In trying to disprove Christian Science they run away from the Bible, stoop to personalities, etc. Christian Science brings to every household that lives this truth, a sweet peace and joy never before known. Even if but one member of a family embraces its teachings, the health and harmony of other members of the family begin to improve, and this is as it should be—"the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife."

Christian Science teaches that the "sweet amenities of Love" (Manual of The Mother Church, p. 40) should govern mankind in their relations with each other; that we should no more criticize a man's spiritual food than his table food; that if we take time to attend properly to our own spiritual attainments, we shall have little time to spare in dictating to our neighbors what theirs should be.
