I esteem it a great privilege to testify to the good I have received, and am receiving daily, through a knowledge of the truth as it is taught in Christian Science. Previous to the time that I became interested in this subject I was much opposed to, and prejudiced against what I later learned was a false concept of its teaching. Like thousands of others, I had condemned Christian Science without any reliable or trustworthy knowledge of the subject.
My interest in Christian Science dates from the healing of a daughter, who had been in very delicate health and under medical treatment almost from her birth, and who had been pronounced incurable by several physicians, owing to a serious spinal condition which had supposedly caused numerous physical and nervous troubles. Referring to my own physical experience, at intervals for more than ten years previous to this time I had been a great sufferer from a seemingly incurable case of stomach trouble. My condition was such that I was unable to take even the most delicate food without intense suffering. I had tried many so-called remedies, and almost every system of medicine, but without any permanent relief. Finally the condition became so serious that I was compelled to retire from business, my only relief from suffering being in the use of an opiate, which I used for weeks and months.
This seemed to be my extremity and also God's opportunity, as I finally yielded to the advice of a friend and began Christian Science treatment. The practitioner told me that all God had made was good, and could be used without fear of harm. This appealed to me as being so reasonable that after the second treatment I accepted the truth, and was able to eat anything that I wished without the slightest resultant injury or inconvenience. This healing was more than two years ago. and since that time. with slight exceptions, I have had perfect health, and the spiritual blessings have been even greater than the physical. During these last two years, the consciousness of this truth—of the omnipotence of God, good—has strengthened me and upheld me through what would otherwise have been a sorrow too great for me to bear.
